Chew On This!

The book I read is Chew On This by Eric Schlosser and Charles Wilson. This book is basically a behind the scenes look at the fast food industry. It talks about how they market towards kids for more profit and overprice menu items. It also talks about employees at fast food places and how in 2000 two McDonalds employees wanted to get payed more for what they do so they fought with the manager, because the manager didn't want to raise the wage. They ended up shutting down that McDonald's and the manager denies it having to do anything with the protest for money but others speculate that it was because of that.

This book was actually interesting and I enjoyed reading it but there were some boring parts. I think the most boring part in the book was when they talked about the farms where they get the animals for food and stuff. Not trying to be rude here but that stuff doesn't really interest me. Then there's the semi interesting stuff like protesting for better wages. That kind of interests me because I like to see people make a change in the world. Then there's the stuff that really gets me hooked which is behind the scenes in restaurants. For example like how they make the food or telling what's in the food and stuff. Or how they overprice the food. But overall this was a good book.

Life Is Beautiful

Some connections and comparisons that can be made are some in the poem I read and the movie. One connection I can make is about the little boy all lonely in the garden in the poem I read. I can connect this boy to the movie because in the movie the little boy had to stay alone all day to hide. He was lonely too. Another connection I can make is in my poem it said, when the flower blossom blooms, the boy will not be in the garden anymore. I thought of this in the movie like the little boy as the blossom, and when the little boy grows up his dad wont be there anymore (because they shot him, sadly.)

The difference between our readings and the movie is that the movie at least had humor in it, but it was still serious. In the movie the dad character is funny a lot. He tries to turn the concentration camp into a game for the little boy. When he is asked to "translate" for the German man, he does not at all accurately translate but he instead says the rules of his made up game which was funny to me. Also the way he prays and gets what he wanted right away was funny. The princess thought it was really happening, but it was just extreme coincidences which was funny. The movie also had some serious parts though, like when the dad got killed. That was sad.

One part in the film that showed life is beautiful is that at the end when the son reunited with the mom. It was a happy moment that came out of something tragic and horrific. I liked this part because it really showed that even in tough times that you have to stay hopeful because miracles do happen. Another part in the film that showed life is beautiful is when the dad spoke to the mom indirectly over the loudspeaker. This was beautiful because it really showed the dad's courage and bravery speaking over the speaker. Even though he could've got caught it really shows how much he sacrificed for other people. One last part in the film that showed life is beautiful is that he took his time to make sure his son was okay. This takes real bravery and sacrifice and again shows how much of a hero the dad was.

PARTYNEXTDOOR

First blog of quarter 4! I am going to be talking about one of my favorite music artists, PARTYNEXTDOOR (PND for short.) The reason I enjoy his music so much is because compared to other artists his music gives me a really chill vibe and it's amazing. My favorite song by him is called Break From Toronto. The only thing bad is it's the shortest song on the album which sucks because it's a real hit. The song just reminds me of driving through the night and not caring about what happens next. It's super chill. Some of my other favorite songs from him are Not Nice, Recognize, Come and See Me, and Wus Good/Curious. I love PND and I really hope he drops some new songs because they are most likely going to be fire. 🔥🔥🔥
